Talkala and Google Voice questions

Is Talkala a Google Voice alternative?

For outbound international calls, yes. Both services can call supported regular mobile and landline numbers. Talkala is not a complete replacement for Google Voice’s phone number, outgoing text messaging, voicemail, forwarding or advanced business features.

Can Google Voice make international calls?

Yes. Google Voice can make international calls from supported web browsers and mobile devices. International calls are charged according to Google’s current rates, account type, origin and destination.

Does Google Voice work in a browser?

Yes. Google Voice supports calling through compatible web browsers as well as Android and iOS apps. Browser access alone is not the main difference between Google Voice and Talkala. Google Voice is built around a Voice number, while Talkala can start directly with the number you want to call.

Is Google Voice free?

Google Voice is not one single plan. Google offers a no-charge personal version for eligible US users, paid standalone plans for individual US users and paid Workspace plans for organizations. International calls can still have usage charges.

Can I sign up for Google Voice outside the US?

Google states that its single-user Basic, Starter and Standard plans are available only in the US. Google Workspace Voice is a separate business product available to eligible organizations in supported countries and regions.

Does Talkala give you a phone number?

A Talkala number is optional. You can make core outbound calls without renting one. A compatible rented Talkala number can be used as caller ID, receive text replies and receive supported personal calls in the browser while Talkala is open.

Can Talkala send text messages or provide voicemail?

Talkala currently supports receive-only SMS with compatible Talkala numbers. It does not currently send SMS and does not include voicemail, voicemail transcription, call forwarding or phone push alerts.

Does the person I call need Talkala or Google Voice?

No. When either service places a normal call to a supported mobile or landline, the recipient answers through their regular phone service. They do not need to install Talkala or Google Voice.

Is Talkala cheaper than Google Voice?

It depends on the destination, number type, originating location and Google Voice account. Compare Talkala’s exact rate for the full number with Google Voice’s current official rate before choosing.

Can I use Talkala and Google Voice at the same time?

Yes. You can keep Google Voice for your number, incoming calls, texts and voicemail while using Talkala for particular international calls. Trying Talkala does not cancel or modify Google Voice.
