Choose the Caller ID People See

Caller ID is the number shown to the person you call. A recognizable number can make a real difference when you are calling a bank, office, client, or family member abroad. Talkala gives you a few ways to handle it.

Why caller ID matters

People screen calls they do not recognize. Some offices also use caller ID to decide whether a call looks trustworthy enough to answer. Talkala cannot control every carrier display decision, but it does let you choose the identity Talkala sends when supported.

Your caller ID options

You can keep the default, prove you own an existing number, or subscribe to a dedicated Talkala number.

Shared Talkala number

If you do not configure anything else, calls use Talkala's shared outbound caller ID for the route.

Your verified number

Verify a number you already own, then use it as your outbound caller ID when supported.

Dedicated Talkala line

Subscribe to a Talkala number for a consistent caller ID that can also receive inbound SMS in your browser.

How to choose

The best option depends on how often you call and whether people need to text you back.

Step 1

Use the shared number for occasional calls

This is the simplest starting point when you just need to place a call and do not care which number appears.

Step 2

Verify your own number for familiarity

This can help when the person already knows your existing mobile or business number.

Step 3

Use a dedicated line for consistency

A dedicated Talkala number is better when you call the same contacts repeatedly or want inbound SMS replies in Talkala.

Key detail

Caller ID limits

Talkala sends the selected caller ID into the phone network, but the final carrier can still decide how it displays the number on the recipient's device.

  • Caller ID does not guarantee that every recipient will answer.
  • Dedicated Talkala numbers do not support inbound voice calls at launch.
  • Inbound SMS requires a Talkala number that can receive messages.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my own phone number as caller ID?

Yes, when you verify that you own the number and it is allowed for outbound caller ID use.

Does a dedicated number include inbound calls?

No. At launch, dedicated numbers support outbound caller ID and inbound SMS. They do not support live inbound voice calls or voicemail.

Why would I pay for a dedicated line?

A dedicated line gives you one consistent Talkala number and unlocks inbound SMS in the browser. It is useful when the same people need to recognize or text the number.
