What It Actually Costs to Call

Most calling services show you one price and hope you do not notice it only applies to landlines. Talkala splits landline and mobile rates across 230+ destinations. The difference can be massive. Check the actual rate here first, then decide if it is worth signing up.

Heads up about caller ID

Your rate depends on which caller ID you use

Use a US caller ID (or a Talkala public number) for the friendlier prices.

The table assumes a US caller ID (the default Talkala public number).

How to find what you need

What you are looking at

Every rate is per minute. The number type matters a lot. Calling a landline in Mexico and calling a mobile in Mexico are two different prices, sometimes wildly different. That is true for most countries, which is why we split them out instead of hiding behind a single number.

Why prepaid pricing changes everything

Your carrier shows you the bill after the call, not before it. Talkala works the other way around. You check the rate, fund your account intentionally, and start the call already knowing what it costs. No statement shock three weeks later. On our carrier price benchmark, some checked routes came in up to 75x lower than carrier rates. See benchmark

When to start here vs. a country guide

Start here when your question is just about price. Go to a country guide when you also need the dialing code, want to know the best times to call, or need to understand whether the number you have is a landline or mobile.

Common questions

Questions about rates

Is the rate here the rate I will actually be charged?

The dialer confirms the exact rate again right before the call connects. The rates page and the dialer pull from the same pricing data.

Are mobile and landline rates always the same?

Almost never. That is exactly why Talkala shows them separately. Lumping them together just hides the real cost.

Is there a monthly subscription for calling?

No. Calling is pay-as-you-go from the balance you loaded with calling credit. Dedicated phone numbers carry a small monthly fee, but that is a separate, optional feature.

Can I compare rates across countries?

Yes. Browse the country index or use the rates page to compare routes side by side, all before you even create an account.
