Professional consistency
Show the exact same caller ID every time you dial an overseas client, increasing pickup rates.
People ignore numbers they do not recognise. A dedicated Talkala number fixes your pickup rate. Secure one consistent outbound identity that clients trust. The monthly lease is billed separately from your prepaid calling balance, and ensures all your inbound SMS replies route perfectly back into your browser.
The short version

If you call the same contacts repeatedly (clients, family, a specific bank), they start recognising your number. That is huge. It also gives you the SMS route for receiving text replies in your browser. What it does not do (yet) is turn Talkala into a full inbound phone service for voice calls.
If you make one international call a year, you can skip this. But if you rely on international comms, it is essential.

Your outbound voice calls and any inbound SMS deliveries are paid from your separate prepaid wallet balance.
We do not force you to upgrade to a bloated $30/month 'Pro' software tier just to access a $2 phone number.
FAQ

There is a brief grace period to update your billing. After that, the number is released back to the telecom network and cannot be recovered. Try to keep a valid card on file.
