How Prepaid International Calling Works

Prepaid international calling means you add credit before you call instead of waiting for a carrier bill later. With Talkala, calls and accepted inbound SMS draw from your available wallet balance.

How does the Talkala prepaid wallet work?

Credit is money added to your wallet through a top-up, bonus, referral reward, promo, or support adjustment. Balance is the amount currently available to spend after wallet entries settle. Talkala uses that balance for supported usage, including outbound calls and accepted inbound SMS.

What you can see in Wallet

The wallet page is built for checking your current spendable state and reviewing what changed it.

Available balance

See the balance available for calls, SMS delivery, and other prepaid usage.

Wallet activity

Review credits, temporary holds during calls, final charges, refunds, bonus credit, referral credit, and support corrections in chronological order.

Payment documents

For successful top-ups, expanded wallet rows can link to Stripe-hosted invoices or receipts when they are available.

What happens to wallet balance during a call

The wallet flow is designed to keep prepaid billing server-authoritative while still being easy to understand.

Step 1

Talkala checks the minimum balance

Before a paid call starts, the dialer shows the minimum balance required for that route.

Step 2

A temporary reserve protects the call

Talkala can reserve balance at the start so the call cannot run beyond what the wallet can cover.

Step 3

The final cost settles after the call

When the call ends, the final charge is captured and any unused reserved balance is released back to available balance.

Ways to add credit

You can keep the wallet manual or make refills less hands-on.

Manual top-ups

Use quick packs or a custom amount from $5 to $1,000 when you want to add credit yourself.

Bonus credit tiers

Manual top-ups can include bonus credit at higher amounts, shown separately from the paid top-up amount.

Smart Auto Top-up

Set a threshold and refill amount with a saved Stripe card so future refills can happen when balance drops below your chosen level.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum top-up?

Manual top-ups start at $5. Custom top-up amounts can go up to $1,000.

Can Talkala charge more than I load?

Talkala calling usage is prepaid. Paid calls require enough balance to start, and live calls are capped by what the wallet can afford.

Can I get receipts or invoices?

Successful top-ups can expose Stripe-hosted receipt or invoice links when Stripe provides them. If you request an invoice at checkout, Stripe collects billing details and supported business tax IDs.
